William Larson: Tucson Gardens
William Larson’s “Tucson Gardens” 1982-3 color photographs set the trajectory for much of the work in color new topographics that continues to this day. The clutter of vernacular architecture, in harsh desert midday light, dominates most compositions. Hailed at the time for their departure from pictorial norms, they were published in 1984 in both Sally Eauclaire’s “NEW COLOR / NEW WORK” (Abbeville Press), and in APERTURE 94. New prints on archival paper have recently been made by the artist in their original format.
